Wisconsin Medical Project Activities

  • Gather supplies
Seek, receive and store appropriate surplus donated medicines and medical supplies
  • Deliver these items
hand-carried by travelers or shipped in containers
  • Perform needs assessment
In Cuba, meet with physicians and other health professionals to assess their needs for medicines, equipment and educational materials
  • Raise funds to support these activities
  • Establish sources for materials
Here are some examples of the work we have done:

To date our greatest achievement has been to send eight 40-foot sea-going containers of supplies, wheelchairs and educational materials. We are hopeful that there will be more shipments this year.

What's in a container?

  • Medical supplies for the pediatric hospital
  • Lab equipment

We have purchased advanced life-saving antibiotics for the Intensive Care Unit.  Through the donations of our members, we have been able to keep this unit supplied with this medicine for the past several years.

We recently explored the potential to supply materials to manufacture wheelchairs for disabled children to give them access to school and other activities.

This is a prototype of a wheelchair manufactured in Camagüey using materials such as we would donate.

We have worked with Project Hope, which is a local organization formed to teach primary physicians to identify children with disabilities at an early age.  This program has evolved to provide treatment for these children.  Additionally, the hospital staff and family have developed mutual help groups and planned social events for the children and parents. This has given the population of disabled children and their parents in Camagüey support and a sense of community in which to help each other handle these difficult situations.
